Campton Hills lost its barbecue when Hopper's recently shut its doors, but it's about to trade that in for a taste of Italy.
Joseph Milano Jr. hopes that those who visit his restaurant this spring will walk away raving about the food, particularly the Italian sausage gravy.
Milano has a target of May 1 for opening Milano's Ristorante Italiano and Banquets at the 40W188 Campton Crossing location that formerly housed Hopper's Barbecue.

At Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room, the Tuesday President Barack Obama came to Savannah began like any other.
A pack of hungry patrons stretched along West Jones Street, their mouths watering as opening time - 11 a.m. - neared.
Inside, servers busily set the tabletops, and cooks prepared the day's fare: heaping helpings of green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, fried chicken and more.

Homemade spinach pies are out; packaged baked potato chips are in.
Mom's pumpkin bread is out; Kellogg's Pop-Tarts are in -- but they must be the whole-grain brown-sugar cinnamon variety.
At public school bake sales, Pop-Tarts are among 29 items the Department of Education has deemed nutritionally sound enough to sell in lieu of homemade goods, which have been banned in part because they do not list nutritional content.

The company, already home to the culinary blog slashfood.com, launched the new KitchenDaily.com this week, a star-powered site focused on cooking basics.
"We really want to help moms and busy home cooks with that dreaded question: 'What's for dinner?'" says Cheryl Brown, editor-in-chief of KitchenDaily.com and a former editor at Gourmet, which closed last October.

GREAT entertainment, but not a lot else.
That's how a number of Welsh chefs have hailed Sophie Dahl's new cookery programme on BBC Two.
Michelin-starred chef Bryan Webb, owner of the Tyddyn Llan, Llandrillo, thinks she's "gorgeous to look at" but couldn't teach him anything about cooking.
The granddaughter of Cardiff-born author Roald Dahl certainly makes a sexy TV chef, a la the Nigella Lawson school of culinary seduction.
I think there’s an assumption in television that audiences are not capable of being interested in a subject and have to be interested in the person presenting it. -Simon Wright

What is the difference between a croque-madame and a croque monsieur?
The sunny side egg that goes on top.
This recipe comes to us courtesy of La Dijonaise in Culver City. Sarah Alexander of Los Angeles wrote to Culinary SOS to rave about how much her husband loves the French comfort food sandwich:
My husband and I have breakfast nearly every weekend at La Dijonaise in Culver City. He never orders anything except the croque-madame.
